There is more to Mother Nature than people usually perceive. The Universe and everything in it is Mother Nature, she is the only god that truly exists.
Anything in the Universe can crumble and die, whilst other things can grow from the unexpected, or out of the depths. Man will not live forever, but Mother Nature will.
Originally the penultimate line referred to God but Mother Nature was, and is, my God and that was not obvious to the reader. So I changed that line to name her. Now, in 2025, she is complaining bitterly with horrendous fires and floods that we are abusing her.
Elusive Butterfly
Some people only ever see her beauty.
Others, who know, see her invisible antennae.
She flies, now and again, into my back garden,
and I rejoice when she settles on my flowers –
if only for a minute.
She is rare, and elusive.
For months now I have had only a glimpse,
for a second or two…
first it looks like she will visit,
then the wind blows her away,
and I must wait for another day.
From her magical antennae
come forth wonderful vibes –
it is her inner beauty coming out,
enwrapping all around with a mantle of silk,
warming and comforting those close to her.
Its thread is woven with care and understanding,
and its colours are like the full moon,
the indigo sky, and the silvery stars.
Or they are a warm gold like the sun
and full of refreshing blues and greens,
like the skies and the seas.
So is the power of her charisma and charm –
it warms, sooths and helps you through rainy days.
But she is elusive –
which magical, cosmic resource is not?
She lives in a wonderful, far away orchard,
and I am so pleased that she visits my home.
For when the elusive butterfly comes into your garden
and is your companion for just a few minutes –
then you know that somewhere, there is the truth,
that Mother Nature is our god and she exudes
a peace, a tranquillity, a Nature that will survive.
